In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4 Anglo American plc announces that on 1   
September 2010, 216,425 shares were transferred out of the Company`s holding of 
treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company`s  
SAYE plan.                                                                      
Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 23,464,661 ordinary   
shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,466,627 ordinary shares in issue,  
excluding treasury shares.
